The Ranganatha Svami temple on the island of Srirangam is the largest living temple in the world. It is the first of the 108 Divya Desams or places sacred to God Vishnu praised in the Tamil hymns (Pasurams) of the Azhvars who were the important devotees of this deity. This temple covers an area of about 156 acres and has twenty-one gopurams- the largest number in any temple in the world.
